We are delighted to welcome you to St. Michael Catholic College, a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth, and the holistic development of every student.
At St. Michael Catholic College, we are a dedicated team committed to ensuring that every pupil receives the right support at the right time. We firmly believe that every child matter and is entitled to the best possible education in an environment that values and nurtures their unique potential.
Our goals are to:
- Identify individual needs: We proactively identify pupils who require support, whether for educational, behavioural, or emotional reasons.
- Tailor appropriate support: We provide personalized interventions that meet the specific needs of each pupil.
- Meet statutory requirements: We fulfil the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) statements or Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.
- Foster a supportive environment: We create a nurturing atmosphere where every pupil feels valued, helping to enhance their self-esteem and sense of belonging within the St. Michael’s community.
- Promote independence and confidence: Our aim is to empower pupils to become confident, independent learners who can fully embrace and benefit from the opportunities available at St. Michael’s.
Through our unwavering commitment, we strive to ensure that every pupil can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, becoming the best version of themselves. At St. Michael Catholic College, we believe in supporting every child to achieve their fullest potential.
What We Provide
The Head of SEN and Inclusion works with teachers, Heads of Department, and external agencies to ensure pupils with additional needs, including those with SEN Statements, receive the necessary support.
Clubs and Interventions
- Reading Club: Weekly sessions for Key Stage 3 pupils to support reading progress.
- Homework and Computer Club: Supervised sessions (Homework: 3:30-4:30 pm; Computer: 8:00-8:30 am, Mon-Thurs).
- Social/Emotional Support: Includes social literacy intervention, PE/games club, and drama therapy.
Examination Support
Special arrangements may include extra time, a reader, a scribe, or the use of a laptop.
Parent Engagement
We value parents’ insights and encourage collaboration. Please contact the SEND department with any queries or concerns.
Alternative Provision Base (APB)
The APB supports pupils with social, emotional, or behavioural difficulties, offering tailored interventions to help them reintegrate into mainstream education.
Counselling and Health Support
- A part-time counsellor is available for pupils requiring emotional support.
- The school nurse manages healthcare plans, first aid, and health education while liaising with external agencies.
Targeted Additional Provision (TAP)
TAP offers personalized interventions for selected students in KS4, using cognitive and solution-focused techniques to boost academic potential and inclusion.
Interagency Collaboration
We adopt a child-centered approach, working closely with external agencies to ensure comprehensive support.
